Made in Europe

The red coral Corallium rubrum is a strong symbol of Corsican culture. In mythology, it is considered to represent the blood of Perseus' beheaded Medusa. To protect themselves from Perseus' evil spell, Corsican families offer a branch of coral to the newborn at each birth. Used for thousands of years as an amulet to protect against bad luck, it has become an emblem of protection for all the island's inhabitants. Continuing this tradition, Maria creates pendants and rings from Bonifacio coral, the red gold of the Mediterranean. The coral used comes from a regulated fishery that respects limited quotas. The island's few remaining coral cutters are the guardians of these stringent regulations. It is within this strict framework that we buy a few samples to meet our production needs.

MARIA BATTAGLIA's vision

The MARIA BATTAGLIA brand draws its inspiration from its Corsican origins. Her creations are an ode to the Mediterranean island, its thriving nature and its mystique.

« A collection inspired by Corsica.»

In the MARIA BATTAGLIA collection, elements borrowed from Corsica's natural landscapes are recurring motifs. These include the chestnut leaf, a Castagniccia tree, the Immortelle flower, endemic to Corsica, the Bonifacio coral and the Altore, the eagle that has made the island its sanctuary.
