The eye of Saint Lucia is a symbol inspired by the operculum of the turbo, a mollusc that grows around Corsica. Like the coral, it is the bearer of many ancestral Corsican legends. According to legend, Saint Lucia obtained her mother's cure thanks to her prayers to the Virgin Mary. In gratitude, she plucked out her own eyes and threw them into the sea, so that nothing could distract her from her devotion to the Virgin Mary. In response to this devotion, the Blessed Virgin picked up two corks from the Turbo Rugosa, restored her sight and made her the most beautiful woman on the island. In the Maria Battaglia collection, the eye of Saint Lucia is worn as a pendant around the neck, undoubtedly to attract the sweetest omens.
